100 LANGUAGES OF CHILDREN (excerpt)
The hundred is there.
The child
is made of one hundred.
The child has
a hundred languages
a hundred hands
a hundred thoughts
a hundred ways of thinking
of playing, of speaking
-LORIS MALAGUZZI, FOUNDER, REGGIO EMILIA PRESCHOOLS
Children’s Art Tutor & Skateboard Instructor
I offer in-home art classes to children ages four through ten. My child driven approach offers creative freedom to address their interests in many different ways. Besides art classes, I offer individual beginner skateboarding lessons, designed to build confidence and resilience. Classes are tailored to the needs of the individual student. My goal as a teacher is to allow my students’ natural curiosities to guide them towards a love of life and learning.
Amanda was raised in Dracut, Massachusetts, adopted from Bogota, Colombia by two loving parents. After Highschool, Amanda worked in Boston, MA, working in the service industry while maintaining a studio art practice, first with the Dorchester Art Project, and later founding an independent artist collective space in Charlestown with fellow artists and crafts people. She then pursued a degree in early childhood education at nearby Bunker Hill Community College, eventually being invited to work with Peabody Terrace Childrens Center on the Harvard University campus. Her life experiences have taught her patience, and the ability to understand multiple perspectives.
Since the pandemic, Amanda has relocated to Twentynine Palms, California, where she immediately began working with the town’s parks and rec department, offering a variety of affordable (and often times free) classes and art events open to children in the community. Classes ranged from, kindergarten age craft projects, age five and up skateboarding lessons, open workshops, and other outlets for creativity and expression.
Amanda provides care for the children of several local families.
Amanda’s artwork has been shown at a number of venues across the United States, and she enjoys participating in local group exhibitions around Joshua Tree. In addition to visual art, Amanda has written, produced, and performed music with her band of over ten years, touring the East coast, and around the country.
